Fabiana Ruiz Diaz is the co-artistic director of Circo El Grito and the SIC – Stabile di Innovazione Circense. A master of flight and circus to her core, she protects the tradition while refusing to be its prisoner, always seeking a poetic essence—a liminal space where our anxieties and extraordinary potential converge.

Circo El Grito was founded in Brussels in 2007 by Fabiana Ruiz Diaz (Uruguay) and Giacomo Costantini. Considered pioneers of contemporary circus in Italy, the company brings the clearest traditions of circus into a contemporary framework, presenting performances that weave together circus, music, dance, magic, theatre, and literature.

El Grito is recognized by the Belgian Ministry of Culture, has collaborated with the French Ministry of Culture, and in 2015 became the first contemporary circus company accredited by the Italian Ministry of Culture, later receiving PIR status (Primary Regional Interest) from the Marche Region.

With 15 shows and over 2000 performances across Europe, Circo El Grito is a powerful engine of artistic experimentation, fueled by the uncontainable curiosity of contemporary circus. They have represented Italy at Aarhus 2017 – European Capital of Culture (Denmark), collaborated with Teatro Regio di Parma on the opening of the Verdi Festival, and co-produced a multidisciplinary show on Verdi arias. For Milano Musica, the historic festival of Teatro alla Scala, they helped create a circus-music drama inspired by Beckett.

In 2022, El Grito announced the launch of SIC – Stabile di Innovazione Circense, Italy’s first international multidisciplinary production center dedicated to contemporary circus, officially recognized by the Ministry of Culture. The project received the highest artistic merit score from the ministerial commission.

A playful exploration of the colors of the human soul in a cold, commercial age, a vertical journey that represents a return to the purity of childhood. This project experiments with a flexible, comical language that sparks wonder and brings the circus to life with the virtuosity of aerial acrobat Fabiana Ruiz Diaz, the provocative clowning of Jorge Albuerne, and the skill of juggler Felipe Flores. Three characters—accompanied by the music of musician Fabio Guandalini, who actively participates in the performance—search for what humanity has long lost: the sudden happiness of the present moment. This work "frames" the interplay of three circus performers and the colors they bring, literally traveling along a musical thread that doesn't comment, but rather engages in dialogue. The show, directly connected to theater, creates a narrative about the conflict between darkness and light that dramatizes, through three-person compositions and choreography, the very absence of color in today's world.

Fabiana Ruiz Diaz is co-artistic director of Grito and SIC/Stabile di Innovazione Circense. A flight instructor, intimately circus-minded, she preserves tradition without wishing to remain its prisoner, searching for a poetic essence, that liminal space that sums up our anxieties and our extraordinary possibilities.
