Sawa Sawa is a show by Mosaico Errante, one of Italy’s leading circus-theater companies. They create, produce, and tour shows for theaters and festivals that over the years have reached hundreds of performances and hundreds of thousands of spectators worldwide, from Europe to Australia, from South America to the Arab Emirates. Their shows have been performed on prestigious stages such as the Quirino and Olimpico theaters in Rome, the Winter Theatre in Sochi (Russia), the Goldoni Theater in Venice, the Princesse Grace Theater in Monte Carlo, the Bellini Theater in Naples, the Gran Teatro Nacional in Lima (Peru), the Duse Theater in Bologna, the Théâtre Libre and the Opera House in Paris, the Verdi Theater in Florence, and have been presented at important international festivals like the Edinburgh and Adelaide Fringe Festivals, the Sziget Festival in Budapest, the MAC in Barcelona, the Kleines Fest in Hannover, and in Italy at Funambolika, Mirabilia, La Versiliana, and many others.

Mosaico Errante expresses a clear, original, and successful identity based on the enhancement of physical virtuosity within spectacular codes that lean towards the most family-friendly fringes of the nouveau cirque, the stylings of the great revue, and the inclusive and cross-genre forms of street events. This identity is well embodied by the company’s director Alessandro Serena. A director, author, and producer, he comes from a traditional circus family (he is the nephew of Moira Orfei) and was among the first to focus on circus-theater in Italy, collaborating around 2000 with La Biennale di Venezia.

“SAWA SAWA”: UNA FESTA ACROBATICA ETNICA

Sawa Sawa is a tightrope walker’s festivity that ironically reinterprets the myth of African exoticism by playing with stereotypes (starting from the music, chosen between archaic suggestions and pop hits), transforming them into spectacular solutions where the line between imagination and reality blurs, leaving only the wonder before the extraordinary acrobatics of these artists.

A rapper enters the stage with a series of hip-hop steps when the sound of ancestral drums interrupts him. Three African warriors appear, dressed in traditional costumes, who, guided by a mysterious shaman, surround the hapless rapper. But mutual fear soon gives way to a playful encounter with the Other.

The group brings to life acrobatic evolutions that, drawing on ancient body disciplines, place man at the center of a show made to amaze. Individual, paired, and group jumps; human pyramids reaching five meters in height; large masks that become shields; fire acts. A very rich repertoire full of adrenaline and fun.

Belonging to the Black Blues Brothers group, a Kenyan troupe experiencing international success thanks to a tour that has seen them perform in theaters and festivals worldwide, the Black Angels are five acrobats from the Sarakasi social circus trust, founded by UN senior official Rudy van Dijck and his wife Marion Op het Veld. Sawa Sawa is a tribute to their continent, capable of captivating people of every country and age.
